Georgia Miller has taken out the prestigious City of Gold Coast Mayor’s Sport Award, much to the approval of the crowd at the 52nd Gold Coast Sports Star Awards.

There’s no doubt about Georgia’s extreme sporting prowess, dominating the Australian surf-lifesaving scene in 2019, but the Mayor’s Sport Award is about more than just an athlete’s results in their chosen sport.

The prestigious accolade is awarded to an athlete that embraces their position in the local community and acts as an ambassador to our proud sporting community – something that Georgia can certainly lay claim to.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate paid homage to the values Georgia represents and the way she has conducted herself as a role model to athletes in our city.

“What an outstanding person and athlete Georgia is. Her grit, her determination and the way she continues to represent the Gold Coast make her the perfect Mayor’s Sport Award recipient,” said Mr Tate

“She exemplifies everything that is Gold Coast and then some, and her have-a-go spirit is to be celebrated.”

While the Northcliffe Surf Club Representative is only relatively new to the Gold Coast sporting scene, she has quickly been accepted as a ‘local’ and embraced what it means to be a “Gold-Coaster”.

She has represented the city with aplomb across a vast array of domestic and international events, and made the Gold Coast proud to call her one of our own.

The Mayor’s Award adds an impressive piece of silverware to a year in which she was also named the the 2019 Australian Surf Sports Athlete of the Year.

This came after becoming only the second athlete to ever to clean-sweep Australia’s three biggest surf-lifesaving events, taking out the Coolangatta Gold, Nutri-Grain Iron Woman Series and Australian Iron Woman Title.

Georgia also represented her city and her country to amazing effect on the World stage, winning the swim race, ski race, iron woman, board rescue mixed taplin relay and tube rescue at the 2019 World Titles.

With the Mayor’s Sport Award now in its fourth year of circulation, the Coast’s newest golden girl of the surf is already in illustrious company, alongside Mat Belcher (Sailing World Champion), Ashleigh Gentle (champion triathlete) and Michael Shelley (Commonwealth Games Marathon Gold).

The Mayor’s Sport Award is proudly sponsored by City of Gold Coast
