The Gold Coast has officially secured a major role in the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games, following the Queensland Government’s announcement of venue allocations and infrastructure investments across the state.

The long-awaited confirmation sees the Gold Coast emerge as one of the Games’ key co-host regions, with several landmark projects set to deliver lasting benefits to the city. Among the highlights are a new 12,000-seat indoor sports and entertainment arena in Southport, a modernised Gold Coast Hockey Centre in Labrador, and an Athletes’ Village to be built at Royal Pines Resort.

Iconic triathlon events will be staged on the city’s world-famous beachfront, further reinforcing the Gold Coast’s reputation as a premier international sporting destination.

The Olympic infrastructure package also includes critical upgrades to public transport, including faster rail links, the long-anticipated Coomera Connector, and new bus priority corridors—improvements designed to enhance connectivity across the city well beyond 2032.

Sports Gold Coast has welcomed the announcement, calling it a game-changing moment for the region’s sporting and economic future.

“This is more than just a sporting milestone—it’s a transformational investment in our city’s future,” Sports Gold Coast CEO Geoff Bower said. “We commend the Premier for his vision and leadership, and we thank Mayor Tom Tate for his relentless advocacy in securing these outcomes for the Gold Coast.”

Mayor Tate has been instrumental in lobbying for the Gold Coast’s inclusion in the Olympic footprint. His efforts have now been rewarded with confirmation that the city will host a range of high-profile events including volleyball, beach volleyball, wrestling, judo, weightlifting, triathlon, and hockey.

At the recent Gold Coast Sports Awards, Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Hon Tim Mander MP, hinted that the Gold Coast would play a significant role in the Games. That projection has now been realised.

“The Olympic Games will not only spotlight our world-class athletes but will leave a lasting legacy—improved infrastructure, increased tourism, and state-of-the-art facilities that will benefit community and elite sport alike,” Sports Gold Coast added.

The Southport Arena project, developed through a partnership between Gold Coast City Council and a private consortium, is expected to become a premier venue for both the Olympic Games and future major events. Meanwhile, the community-funded upgrade of the Gold Coast Hockey Centre is being hailed as a major win for local sport.

With a diverse lineup of events and infrastructure enhancements now confirmed, the Gold Coast is poised to play a vital role in delivering a world-class Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The 2032 Games are forecast to deliver far-reaching social, cultural, and economic benefits across Queensland, and with its confirmed status as a cornerstone host city, the Gold Coast is now firmly at the forefront of the state’s Olympic legacy.
