What sports team would you vote for?
We’re excited to announce the nominees for the 1029 Hot Tomato People’s Choice Award, recognizing a Gold Coast sporting team that has achieved significant success at a State, National or International level in 2022.
The finalists are the Benowa State High School Girls Volleyball Program, Coomera Dragons Dragonboat Club, and The Cold Coast Roller Sports.
The Year 8 and Year 11 Girl’s Volleyball teams both won National Titles at the 2022 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup. Benowa SHS is the only Gold Coast school to have ever won an Australian School title and to win two in the same year is amazing. The Year 11 Girls are also the 2022 Qld Schools Cup Champions and have won the State Title 4 of the last 5 years. The result of both of these teams meant that the girl’s program was the third-best girl’s volleyball program in the country.
Coomera Dragons created a junior team in July 2022 to try and grow the Dragonboat community they take ages from 8 til 18 for their juniors. This year they had enough juniors to make 2 teams when they previously had none and they have won every Regatta they have competed at. They will be competing in States next month.
Last year Gold Coast Rollers Sports had 19 skaters compete at State Championships and all 19 made it to the National level.
Five of the 19 made it through to the International level and competed in New Zealand in October 2022.
