For many years Daphne Pirie MBE AO was a director of Gold Coast Events Management – organisers of the Gold Coast Marathon and Pan Pacific Masters Games – and held life memberships with Hockey Australia, Women’s Hockey Australia and Hockey Queensland, as well as being a Hockey Queensland Hall of Fame Inductee.

She was a long-time board member of the Queensland Academy of Sport and President of the Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame since its inception in 1999 until her passing on 1 April this year. This award honours Daphne’s indomitable spirit and her desire to see grassroots sport flourish.
