Attention all sports fans!

The highly-anticipated 54th Gold Coast Sport Star of Year Awards are coming up, and we couldn’t be more excited to announce this year’s nominees. On March 25, 2023, at RACV Royal Pines, Sports Gold Coast and the Sporting Hall of Fame will host some of the most incredible athletes of our time, as we celebrate their incredible achievements and honor the very best in sports.

First on the list is Emma McKeon, the swimming superstar who made history at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, equalling the record for most gold medals won at the event.  Emma took out the Sports Star of Year Award in 2022.  Can she make it back-to-back titles? 

 Jai Opetaia, the undefeated boxer who won the world IBF and the ring cruiserweight championship, is also nominated, alongside surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore, who secured her eighth world championship title in 2022.

But that’s not all – we also have Ali Day, the reigning Nutri-Grain Ironman Series Champion who held the Australian and World Championship titles in 2022, and Shane van Gisbergen, the 2022 Supercars Champion with an impressive 21 race wins under his belt.

Joining them on the list of nominees is Elijah Winnington, the talented swimmer who won gold at the 2022 World Championships before adding three Commonwealth Games gold medals to his collection. Maddison Levi, the rugby 7s gold medalist and World Series Rookie of the Year, is also on the list, along with Jean Vander Westhuizen, the sprint kayak gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics and the World Championships.

Last but not least, we have Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, the rugby league star who played a vital role in the Kangaroos’ World Cup-winning team, and Logan Martin, the BMX freestyle gold medalist at the X Games.
