Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame
History. Heritage. Heart
History. Heritage. Heart
A key project for Sports Gold Coast is to ensure the Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame is geared for sustainability by creating a more secure financial footing.
It will be a place to honour our greatest sportspeople, preserve our history, promote our values and celebrate the Gold Coast’s excellence in sport.
Our vision is for the Hall to be nationally renowned and held in high esteem throughout the Gold Coast community, engendering civic pride, encouraging aspiring future sports stars and promoting our sporting achievements in an exceptional way.
We want to make the Hall highly visible and accessible to Gold Coast residents and visitors, creating a unique way of promoting and funding our city’s sporting history and achievements, while enhancing our world-renowned sporting culture.
In addition to acknowledging sporting personalities, the Hall also holds an outstanding collection of sporting memorabilia and an impressive library.
There are three key pillars to delivering a more sustainable model.
Relocation
Relocating the Hall to a prominent central site in our city on a temporary basis. The site must be located where there is easy access and significant pedestrian traffic.
This will immediately reduce mounting maintenance and repair costs and enable the board to have regular fund-raising events and inductions.
Rebuilding
Rebuilding a new facility which:
- Prominently features our athletes’ world class achievements and the history of sport in our city.
- Provides an interesting and interactive museum to inspire future sports stars and educate residents and visitors on the Gold Coast’s rich sports culture.
- Provides a prestigious meeting place to celebrate and honour our inductees and encourage corporate membership.
Restructure
The Hall must reduce the operational and admin burdens currently imposed on the board with a full-time operations manager. This will enable the board to:
- Attract high profile business leaders, former sports stars or prominent individuals who can attract funding.
- Hold more corporate events in conjunction with council, EG, inductions, athletes welcome home from international events, etc.
- Collaborate with council, the education and community sport sectors.
- Enable delivery of the Sports Awards Gala without SGC’s support, which will gain national attention and be a major fundraiser for the Hall.
With the will, the right collaborations and a concerted effort to generate funding from both the private and government sectors, the Hall of Fame can become an important characteristic of the city’s sporting culture.
